Throne and Liberty is an MMORPG and a pretty interesting one. Now, what’s most common in MMORPGs is the availability of an open world for players to explore and fight other players. This makes games pretty demanding on the hardware side and it’s true in the case of Throne and Liberty. Based on the system requirements of the game, it seems that the Steam Deck will struggle to run the game at optimal framerates. Given the fact that it is neither listed as Verified or Playable for the handheld, there are no handheld-specific optimizations offered by the developers as well. So, all these point towards one thing: the game’s performance on the Steam Deck won’t be very good. However, there is evidence online that showcases the game running quite well on the Deck without over 50 FPS, provided the right settings are selected. But this doesn’t mean crashes won’t occur. In case the game is crashing frequently on your Deck, here’s what you can try.

Although you might get close to 50–60 FPS while playing Throne and Liberty on your Steam Deck, this doesn’t guarantee that the game will run on the handheld flawlessly. Due to the lack of proper support and optimization, crashing can occur at any instant. To deal with this, try these workarounds:
1) Restart
Crashing issues can occur if there are background processes running on your Deck that are hindering the game’s functioning. To deal with this, start with the simplest workaround: restart the Deck. Once you do this, launch the game and then check if the issue persists.
2) Verify Game Files
Another common cause of crashing issues in games is corrupted game files. Sometimes, due to unknown reasons, the game files on your system can get corrupted, due to which the crashing issue will occur at regular intervals or the game won’t launch at all. So, to fix this, you will have to verify the game files. For this, head over to the Steam, go to Library, and select the Throne and Liberty tile. Here, select the Options button and tap on Properties. In the new window, select the Installed Files tab, and then tap on the Verify Integrity of Game Files option. Doing so will initiate the file verification scan, after which you have to wait. Once the scan is completed, launch the game to check if the issue persists.
3) Proton Version
It is also possible that the Proton version in use is the culprit behind the crash. To check this out, you will have to try various Proton versions to run the game. For this, head over to the game’s Properties menu as shared in the previous workaround. In the Properties menu, this time, select the Compatibility tab. Here, under the check-marked Force Proton Use option, tap the drop-down menu and select a different Proton version to run the game. You can start with the latest Proton Experimental, or switch to Proton GE if the crashing persists. Some players mentioned that Proton 9.10 causes the game to crash, so it is best that you stick to Proton 9.9 or lower.
4) SteamOS Beta Channel
It is also possible that the current SteamOS stable version might be causing the game to crash. So, to rule out this possibility, it is recommended to switch to the beta channel of SteamOS and then launch the game. But how? For this, all you need to do is access the Settings menu of your Steam Deck, and select the Beta Participation option. Here, you will find the Beta option. Select it from the drop-down menu and save the changes. Once saved, restart the Deck and then launch the game to check if the issue persists.
5) Dual Boot Windows
Recently, it has come to light that after the latest update to Throne and Liberty, players who were able to run the game on their Decks are currently being thrown out of the game servers after a few seconds of joining, leading to a crash. So, it is possible that the update removed the compatibility of the game on Linux. If that’s indeed the case, there is only one thing you can do, and that’s dual booting Windows on your Deck. Once you’ve installed Windows OS, we don’t think you will encounter any compatibility-related issues on the Deck.
6) Reinstall
If you are not in favor of the idea of dual-booting your Deck with Windows but are encountering crashes in the game, then the final workaround worth trying is to perform a reinstall. So, begin by uninstalling the game from your Steam Deck and then installing it again. But make sure that you install it on your Deck’s internal storage for better results.
Well, for now, these are the workarounds worth trying in case you are encountering crashing issues while running Throne and Liberty on your Steam Deck. If you find this guide informative, consider visiting Android Gram for more such content on all things gaming.
