Voice communications are some of the most fundamental aspects of a game that supports both PvP and co-op gameplay. Well, the same is true for VTOL VR. Since this is a VR title that focuses on carrying out various missions, without voice communications, it becomes very difficult to effectively communicate with your team and make split-second decisions. Also, since the game includes the feature to use voice commands (only for players in the US with a Meta Quest 2), your microphone is an essential tool to make good use of it. VTOL VR tries to simulate the real-life air combat experience as much as possible. Although the game supports voice chat, there have been issues that players are encountering as their mic doesn’t work during communication. This issue can be caused by game glitches or simple problems like your headset not being properly connected. However, since this is an issue, you need to understand how to fix it. So, we have shared this guide featuring all potential workarounds for it.
As we already mentioned, there are multiple causes for this issue. For the sake of this guide, we are going to assume that you have properly connected your headset or voice input device (mic) to your PC. If you are unsure, check the connections again, and then proceed to follow the workarounds mentioned below.
Vtol VR mic not working: How to fix it?
VTOL VR is a VR game, and in its current state, there are various in-game bugs that players have reported dealing with. Even if your mic and headset are properly plugged in, there may be some configuration issues with SteamVR that are causing the problem. So, here are some of the methods to solve the mic not working issue in VTOL VR:
1). Set your Headset/External Microphone as the default mic
The mic on your headset or external microphone has to be set as the default communication device when you are playing the game. While the game does use the Windows default option, you will have to manually select your mic in the SteamVR section to make sure it works properly. In order to do this, navigate to the Settings menu in SteamVR and click on Voice. Here, choose the primary microphone as the default input device. Also, check which input device is being used by the game in the Windows Audio Settings menu, and manually assign the primary mic to VTOL VR.
2). Make sure the game is in focus
Having the game in focus means that it is being shown and interacted with on the desktop. This makes it possible for you to communicate using the default keybinds for communication in the game. If this is not the case, make sure that the game appears on the desktop screen rather than being minimized. Also, prevent all background processes from running while launching the game that uses your microphone.
3). Restart the headset
Restarting your headset is also an effective workaround to fix this issue. So, if the microphone on your headset isn’t working in the game, then consider restarting. After this, check whether the issue persists.
4). Verifying the game files
Any input-related issue can also be due to corrupted files. In order to make sure this is not the case, verifying the integrity of game files is a good idea. To do this,
- Head to the Steam library, and right-click on VTOL VR.
- Now, click on Properties, then select Installed files. Here, select the Verify Integrity of Game Files option.
5). Update audio drivers
Make sure to run the latest version of audio drivers on your system. If they are not updated, such issues can occur. So, go to the Device Manager, select the “Audio inputs and outputs” option, and right-click on the primary audio device you are using. Now, click on the Update Driver option. Next, select the “Search automatically for drivers” option. After the drivers are updated, launch the game, and then check whether the issue persists.
