bad omen in Minecraft

Potion effects are a crucial part of Minecraft gameplay. Many things that are normally unachievable are made easy with positive potion effects. However, there are some potions effects in Minecraft that have a negative effect on the gameplay. And by its name you can already tell, “Bad omen” is not a potion effect to mess around with. To know more about the bad omen potion effect in Minecraft and how to take advantage of it, keep reading the article!

What is a Bad omen in Minecraft?
bad omen in Minecraft

A bad omen is a negative potion effect that is gained after killing a pillager captain. A pillager captain can be easily identified by the banner attached to its back. They can be found wandering with a small group of pillagers or near a pillager outpost. The reason why bad omen is one of the worst potion effects is that it starts a raid as soon you go near a village. A raid is a dangerous event that spawns the most lethal mobs in every wave. Vindicators, evokers, witches, and ravagers are all spawned at the last wave of the raid. Taking out the normal pillagers that spawn is not a big deal. But dealing with the mobs mentioned above is not easy at all.

Moreover, having a villager farm near your base will also trigger the raid as a bad omen. In Minecraft, a villager with a bed is enough to classify as a village. That’s why you need to be very careful when you have the bad omen effect in Minecraft. If you are not geared enough to take on a raid, starting it might force you to flee from your own base. The most dangerous mob in the entire raid is the “Vex”. Evokers spawn vexes which are small flying mobs that yield a sword and can phase through blocks. It does a lot of damage for its size. Hence, it is better to just stay away until you are ready to fight a raid head-on.

Lesser known facts:

Players can stack up the bad omen effect in Minecraft. You just have to successfully kill a pillager five times to multiply the effect and start a level five raid. Players who are fully geared to take on a level five raid can gain a lot from it. A level five raid spawns a lot more Evokers which drop ‘Totem of undying’ when killed. To give you a better perspective, a level 1 raid manages to give you around 3 totems max. While a level five raid can give you around 8 totems. There can’t be a better definition for ‘High risk, high reward’.

When a player successfully defeats a raid, they gain the ‘Hero of the village’ potion effect which reduces the cost of trades given by villagers. However, a lesser-known fact is that villagers can sometimes light fireworks to celebrate winning the raid. Also, players can have a ‘Bad omen’ while still having the ‘Hero of the village’ effect in Minecraft.
