The world of Hyrule has never been as extensive as it is in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (ToTK). Although two new layers have been added to increase the verticality of the game, the mainland of Hyrule (Surface region) geographically remains almost the same as it was in Breath of the Wild. In ToTK, horses are once again the most reliable creatures to cover long distances. Horses have varying attributes like Bond level, Speed, Strength, etc. Zelda ToTK improved upon BoTW by letting a player upgrade their horse, a feature that many fans wanted for years. So let’s find out how you can upgrade your horse in the game.
Although Zonai-powered vehicles let you travel the lands of Hyrule, these have not replaced horses. In BoTW, you had to depend solely on your exploration skills to find a superior-quality steed whose stats were worth adding to your collection. This was not welcomed by fans, as they wanted Nintendo to implement a way to upgrade their horses as per their needs. This article guides you on how to upgrade the stats of your favorite horse in ToTK.
Zelda Tears of the Kingdom (ToTK): How to upgrade your Horse
Horses in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom have multiple attributes, namely Strength, Speed, Stamina, Pull, Temperament, and Bond. The first 4 have a certain number of stars associated with them, with 1 star being the lowest tier and 5 stars being the highest tier in that category. The temperament of the horse is self-explanatory, and Bond indicates how tame your horse is. In ToTK, the first four stats mentioned above can be upgraded. So we’ll be focusing only on upgrading the horse’s Strength, Speed, Stamina, and Pull.
Where To Go To Upgrade Your Horse
First, make sure you have at least one Endura Carrot in your inventory. If you don’t have it, head to Satori Mountain and gather some, or you can make your own Endura Carrot farm. Read this article to learn more about how to get Endura Carrots in ToTK. After this, you will have to interact with Malanya (The Horse God).
From Central Hyrule, head north-east towards the Deep Akkala region, located beyond Death Mountain. Cross the Akkala Highlands and keep heading northeast until you arrive at the Malanya Spring. Here are the coordinates: (4295, 3219, 0149). The horse god Malanya is present inside the giant fruit, which has spikes on its surface.
To talk to Malanya, you need to give her an Endura Carrot. When she pops out, you will be prompted to either “Enhance” your horse or “Revive” a lost horse. Needless to say, click on the first option to enhance your horse. A new window appears, listing all the horses in your collection. Choose the horse that you need to upgrade and select the desired attribute that you want to enhance. Each of the 4 attributes requires different recipes to be available in your inventory. Here is the list:
- Strength – Necessary resources are 3x Vegetable Curry, 3x Hot Buttered Apple, and 3x Carrot Cake.
- Speed – Necessary resources are 3x Vegetable Omelet, 3x Veggie Cream Soup, and 3x Apple Pie.
- Stamina – Necessary resources are 3x Honeyed Apple, and 3x Veggie Porridge.
- Pull – The only necessary resource is 1x Veggie Rice Ball.
