Have you been collecting a lot of copper ore in Minecraft but don’t know what to do with it? Check out the possible uses for copper in Minecraft. Ever since the introduction of copper ore in the 1.17 update, there have been a lot of questions regarding its use. There might be a lot of things you don’t know about it yet. So, to help you out, here is how you find and use copper in Minecraft.
How to find copper?
Copper spawns six times per chunk in the ‘Overworld’. Copper ore veins generally contain 1-16 blocks. It usually spawns from Y level 0 to Y level 96. That means players can find copper veins anywhere from bedrock all the way to the mountains. Copper ores most likely spawn at coordinates Y = 47 or Y = 48.
To mine the copper ore, you will have to use a stone, iron, diamond, or netherite pickaxe. The copper ore will be destroyed if you don’t use one of these pickaxes. The copper ore can drop 2 or 3 raw copper when mined. You can increase the drop rate by enchanting your pickaxe with ‘Fortune’. For the maximum level of fortune (Fortune 3), you can get up to 12 raw copper from a single ore.
You can then smelt raw copper using a regular furnace or a blast furnace. Smelting one copper ore will give you one copper ingot. You can use this copper ingot in a variety of crafting recipes. Let’s take a look at the uses of copper in Minecraft.

Use of copper in Minecraft:
You can use a copper ingot in two very unique crafting recipes. A player can create a ‘lightning rod’ and a ‘spyglass’ with the help of a few copper ingots.
The ‘lightning rod’ attracts lightning that can potentially strike on mobs or builds. It nullifies the effect of the lightning by absorbing the hit. This can be helpful to protect your builds from a fire or to prevent ‘Villagers’ from turning into a ‘Witch’. The ‘Spyglass’ increases a player’s vision, allowing them to see things far beyond their render distance.
Other than that, copper ingots can be used to create a variety of blocks. A copper block has a unique look to it which makes it a great building block. You can turn a solid copper block into a variety of other blocks like copper stairs or copper slabs. To make a copper block, you will need nine copper ingots. Craft a copper block and check the crafting table for all the possible recipes that include the copper block.
Special properties:
Apart from being used for building, there are other properties to a copper block that you might want to know. A copper block when placed in your Minecraft world, oxidizes and changes color over time. Like copper in real life, any copper block in Minecraft (stairs, slabs, cut copper) oxidizes and changes its color to turquoise or teal color.
This oxidization process can be stopped by applying ‘bees wax’ on the blocks. Use ‘honeycomb’ to apply beeswax and use an ax to take it off. You can also scrape off the oxidized copper to turn it into regular copper using an ax.
