Want to spend a weekend away from Instagram or Tiktok? That would be a good detox for any millennial. But no amount of “mindfulness” can help if the distractions are just a tap away. Today’s smartphones are more than easy to understand and provide access to a lot of social media.
The thing about social media is that it can be useful but only within a limit. But “limit” isn’t a valid word when it comes to smartphones and unlimited internet availability. In that case, a minimal phone is what you may consider. And Light Phone is exactly what you are considering. The latest model of Light Phone 2 features more but still keeps social media, video games, and the internet out of your hands. Believe it or not, keeping away from the internet for a certain amount of time will certainly help reduce stress and keep healthier. But what about the popular messaging platform, Whatsapp? Is it available on Light Phone 2? Keep reading this article to know.
What does the phone include?
Although it could seem so, Light Phone 2 isn’t exactly “cheap”. You’ll need to shell out $299 for this minimalistic phone. Over its predecessor, the Light Phone 2 is a good improvement. It now supports 4G LTE calling and features major software enhancements. The phone also includes a music app that lets you add tracks from the dashboard. So, basically, you will need to use a browser to add music to your phone. Similar rules apply to the podcast app. There’s also a maps app, which is very buggy.
The Light Phone looks like an uncomfortably small version of the Kindle. Seriously, the phone is tiny! Good luck to you, if you have big hands. To us, Light Phone 2 seems viable only as a secondary option. You can have that “detox weekend” with Light Phone 2, but day-to-day activities with it being a primary phone looks rather impossible.
Is WhatsApp available in Light Phone 2?
You would like that, wouldn’t you? But, where’s the internet? As you may have guessed already, WhatsApp or any online platform close to the term “social media” is unavailable on Light Phone. If you ask us, learning to live with social media could be a better solution. Social media is a product of a great idea, and it has, without any doubt, done a lot of good. It’s important to learn how to use social media within limits, so as to not cause yourself anxiety or harm to your eyes.
As far as Light Phone 2 is concerned, getting a phone like that isn’t a bad idea if you have that kind of money to spare and can bear with its incredibly slow software. But, the Light Phone isn’t the right choice for everyone.
