Nowadays, smartphones come with ample storage to store thousands of photos, hundreds of videos, and more. This has been possible because most smartphone brands, even in the budget category, offer base storage of 128GB. While upper variants can go up to 256GB/512GB/1TB, the 128GB storage is widely preferred by many. While this might seem adequate, depending on your device’s capabilities to capture photos and videos, storage can run out pretty easily. Well, to curb this issue, you get access to a free Google Cloud Storage plan that gives you a combined storage of 15 GB on the cloud across various Google services. Whenever you open Google Photos, you will get a prompt from Google to enable Cloud Backup if it’s not already turned on. But even if you have enabled cloud backup, there can be some photos that fail to get added to the cloud. So, it ultimately comes to you to check which photos are not backed up. But how to do so? Well, we have shared all the details regarding the same.
Storage can run out pretty quickly if your device comes equipped with a high-megapixel camera. If resolution is set to high, each photo can take up to 5–6 MB of storage, and when high-resolution videos are taken into account, running out of storage is far more realistic. This is where Google Cloud Storage comes into play. Even the base free plan is enough to store the extra multimedia that you don’t want to store on your phone. Plus, if you switch devices, you can simply log in to your Google Account and then access the photos stored in the cloud right away. That being said, let’s get back to checking which photos are not backed up in Google Photos.

Google Photos: How to know which photos are not backed up?
There are many ways to check which photos are backed up on Google Photos. Below, we have shared the methods, so feel free to try them out.
Access Google Photos via the web
For this method, you will have to open a browser and then head over to the official Google Photos webpage. You can click here for the same. Once on the webpage, log in to your Google account, and then a list of photos will appear on Google Photos. The photos that appear here are backed up. This is the reason why you are able to access them via the web. Now, you need to crosscheck these photos to the ones stored on your phone to figure out which ones are not backed up.
Check the Cloud Icon on the photo in Google Photos
Another method is to open the Google Photos application on your phone and then access the Photos tab. Here, every photo on your phone will appear. Now, at the bottom-right corner of the photo, you should see a cloud-shaped icon. This means that the photo is backed up on the cloud. The photos, which don’t have the cloud shape icon, aren’t backed up. So, this is another way to check.
Access the Properties menu of the photo via Google Photos
Now, to further confirm whether the photo has been backed up on the cloud or not, you will need to access the photo via Google Photos, open it, and then select the hamburger icon. This will bring up the properties menu. Next, scroll down to check if the Cloud Backup status is being shown. If the “Backup up” information or icon is missing, this means that the photo is stored on the device only and not on the cloud.
