In this article, we will show you how to reset the world map as a server manager in Ark Survival Evolved.
Resetting a world in Ark Survival Evolved is indeed tricky. Since the game doesn’t officially support such functionality, you need to perform certain workarounds using the game files on your computer. Keep reading to learn how to reset the world in Ark: Survival Evolved.
ARK Server Manager: How to reset the map
There are two types of world resets that you can implement on your server in ARK. However, before heading into the process, you should note that there are many hosting services that offer the ability to host Ark servers. So, to access the files on that server, you will have to navigate accordingly and find the FTP Client section. After logging in, you will be able to access all the files stored on that server.
Reset the world along with player progression
You can entirely start over in Ark: Survival Evolved. This includes deleting your character progression, world exploration, and in-game items and equipment. To do this, head to the server settings of your hosting service, and log in to the FTP File Access menu. Next, head over to the following path to find the location of the SavedArks folder: \ShooterGame\Saved\SavedArks.
The SavedArks folder is the one that holds your progress on the private server. But wait! First, make sure to create a backup of the SavedArks folder so that you can easily revert it to its previous state in case there is some mishap and the game doesn’t work. To reset the world and completely wipe out every molecule of progress, make sure to delete every file in the SavedArks folder. Now, launch the game and join your private server. Chances are that you will be able to start the game again with no errors. If there are errors, revert to the previous checkpoint using the backup. Just make sure that the backup folder has the same name as “SavedArks”
Reset the world without the player progression and other in-game elements
The initial process for a map reset is the same as in the previous section. Access the server settings of your hosting service, head over to the path \ShooterGame\Saved\SavedArks, and create a backup of the SavedArks folder.
Now, if you notice the files in this folder, there is a pattern. Every file has a specified ID followed by a descriptive tag. The idea is to delete only those files for which you don’t want the in-game progress to be saved. For example, the .arktribe folder consists of information about tribes. Or the .arkprofile holds information about the player’s progression. So you might want to delete these files.
Similarly, you have to check every file to determine whether you want the respective progression and then delete it. We know that it’s tedious, but that’s the best way we’ve got. Also, make sure that before deleting a file, you create a backup. After that file is deleted, launch the game and check if it works fine. If yes, move on to the next file. If not, revert to the previous backup. Rinse and repeat.
Note: Don’t delete the SavedArks folder itself since it contains configuration information about your private server in the .ini files.
