Castoroides, or as Ark players better know them, beavers, are some of the best wood gatherers in the game. If you want to gather wood, they are your go-to choice. Since Ark Survival Ascended does not have the expansion maps just yet, this is your best bet to get lots of wood fast. Apart from being excellent wood gatherers, you also want to tame them for a variety of reasons. They are cute, they are useful, and they are easy to tame.
Taming dinosaurs is an essential part of this game. There are dinosaurs that are better than you at almost all gathering and damage-related activities. This includes things like collecting metal, stone, and wood or outright dealing damage. There are also creatures with special abilities, like the Daeodon which can heal its allies; the Anky which can reduce the weight of the metal in its inventory; and the Pachy which can release pheromones to make taming easier. That being said, if you are wondering how you can tame a Castoroides in Ark Survival Ascended, consider reading this guide until the end for more details on the same.
Ark Survival Ascended (ASA) Castoroides Taming Guide: How to tame & get it?
The Beaver, like most of these creatures, has its own niche use in Ark. When not tamed, they have a chance to make a Beaver Dam in the wild. These are often your best source of cementing paste and can save you a lot on wood collecting. There is a drawback, though: you are attacked when you break or even look into the inventory of one. This is the beaver attacking you.
How to tame it?
Taming it is actually pretty simple. You really just have to find one near the banks of rivers on the map and knock it out. The issue is that there are usually other beavers around. In order to save yourself some trouble, we recommend you bola the one you want to tame and get the others to aggro. This can be done by eating a rare flower or by breaking their beaver dam. This will make it possible for you to deal with the others without damaging or hurting the one you want to tame.
Once you have it isolated, you can tranq it out with darts (recommended since they don’t have too much health) or bola it and knock it out with a club. This will allow you to tame it. They are quite slow on land so you can just run away and wait for the bola to retime and bola them again (if the bola breaks midway). Once you knock them out, you can feed them mejoberries or Superior Kibble and tame them.
Tips and tricks
They are very slow on land but are quite fast on water. You need to keep that in mind in case you have to outrun predators in-game. Apart from this, they reduce the weight of wood in their inventory when you harvest with them. Wild beavers are also passive, so you can essentially carry one without taking any damage to isolate and tame them in a pen or elsewhere. This will save you a lot of trouble getting rid of the other ones. Also, make sure to leave some of them alive if you want to keep harvesting the dams when they make them. Make sure to break the beaver dam, however, since they won’t make a new one unless it is broken.
