Step 1: Prerequisites
Taming a Quetzal requires careful planning and preparation. Here’s what you’ll need before embarking on your journey:
- A flying mount: To effectively chase and tame a Quetzal, you’ll need a reliable flying mount of your own. Argentavis or Pteranodon are popular choices due to their speed and maneuverability, but a Griffin is recommended since you can fire weapons from its back.
- Tranquilizer darts or arrows: Quetzals have immense health, so you’ll need tranquilizers to bring them down. Stock up on Tranquilizer Darts or Tranquilizer Arrows and make sure you have plenty to spare.
- Traps: To trap your Quetzal from escaping, you can use any traps you want, but a Dino Gate is recommended.
Step 2: Spot it
Quetzals are massive creatures with distinctive appearances, making them relatively easy to spot in the game. Look up into the sky and keep an eye out for their enormous wingspan and long neck. Quetzals are often found flying in the vicinity of mountains or other high-altitude areas.
Step 3: Aerial Chase
Once you’ve spotted a Quetzal, mount your flying creature and pursue it. Quetzals are fast, so make sure to keep up with them. Get close enough to shoot it with a net gun and trap it. Use Dino Gates or any other trap around it to keep it from escaping.
Step 4: Immobilizing and Taming
Continue to net gun and tranquilize the Quetzal, as its torpidity is quite high, you would need a ton of extra Tranquilizer Darts( at least 70). Once it is downed, fill the Quetzal’s inventory with preferred food, such as Raw Mutton (at least 24) or Exceptional kibble (at least 11), to begin the taming process, and use at least 31 Narcotics to keep it knocked out. Also, continue to feed it until it is tamed by checking its torpidity from time to time.
Step 5: Finalizing the Tame
Once the Quetzal’s hunger has been satisfied and reached its required taming level, congratulations! You’ve successfully tamed a Quetzal. Access its inventory, and claim it as yours.
