Boltgun Steam Deck controller not working: How to fix it?
Many players have reported the same issue on Steam discussions and Reddit threads. Some are even criticizing that the game is not optimized for Steam Deck. Unfortunately, the developers have yet to address the issue. Although it’s difficult to pinpoint the reason for the issue, we have shared a few effective workarounds for you to try:
Restart the Deck
Firstly, try a simple device restart. Restarting the Deck is effective in tackling various issues and bugs that might be causing the controller issues.
Sometimes, the default Proton compatibility setting might not be playing nice with Boltgun. This leads to a Proton Mismatch hence resulting in the controller inputs getting registered. It’s recommended to experiment with different Proton versions, particularly Proton Experimental. Many Steam Deck users have reported success with this workaround.
Steam Input Calibration
Incorrect controller configuration or outdated Steam Input configs can lead to malfunctioning controls resulting in encountering this issue. So, head over to Steam Deck settings, then go to Input. Now, go to Controller calibration to ensure your buttons and joystick are registering correctly. Secondly, go to the Steam menu, disable it, and then re-enable the Steam input.
Order of Controller
Reddit user u/unarmedpig_af takes the credit for this workaround. According to the user, setting the right order of the controller could be a potential fix. When starting up the game, as the “Press any button” screen pops, switch the order of controls. Put the Steam Deck controller on spot 1 and the wireless controller on the second. After doing so, check if the issue persists.
This workaround was shared by Majin_Guy on Steam discussions. For this workaround, switch the control inputs of the Deck to WASD and then remap the buttons. Once done, start the game. Then switch the controls back to the recommended gamepad controls. Doing so should fix the controller not working issue in-game on your Deck.
Well, these are the workarounds you can try to fix the controller not working issue in Warhammer 40K Boltgun on Steam Deck. We hope that at least one of the workarounds helped you.
