Want to create a map in Minecraft but don’t know the crafting recipe? Sit back while we walk you through every step of creating a map in Minecraft.
A map in Minecraft can be used for multiple purposes. If you are a complete vanilla player at heart and don’t believe in using the coordinates to navigate through your world, using a map is your best option. Maps can also be used to decorate your base by placing them in an ‘Item frame’. This is an easy way to show off your builds and plan for future projects. But, crafting a map is not as easy as it might seem. The crafting ingredients required for a map and how to find them are listed below. Take a note of it to easily create a map in Minecraft.
Crafting recipe for map in Minecraft:
The crafting recipe for a map includes two ingredients – a compass and 8 pieces of paper. A compass is a navigation tool in Minecraft that points towards the world spawn. To make a compass, you will need 4 iron ingots and 1 Redstone dust. Craft the compass using a crafting table and move on to the next step. If you have any queries related to compass in Minecraft, you can go through the complete guide for the same by clicking here.
To make paper, you will need ‘Sugarcane’. Sugarcane can be found easily, naturally spawning near river banks or any water body. Arrange three sugarcane horizontally in a crafting table. This should give you the paper you need to craft a map in Minecraft. Once, you collect all 8 pieces of paper and a compass, craft a map using the crafting table. Arrange these ingredients as shown in the image below!
A player can also find a map in a chest while exploring the ‘Stronghold’, ‘Shipwreck’, and ‘Village’. The ‘Cartographer villager’ trades an empty map for 7 emeralds. Also, in the JAVA edition, players receive a map as a gift from the cartographer villagers after winning a raid.
Further Improvements:
The standard-sized map displays a 128*128 block area in your world. You can use a cartography table to enlarge this map. Right-click on a cartography table (which is made using four wooden planks and two paper). Add your map and a piece of paper in the two slots. This will double the size of your map. You can repeat this process a total of five times. The maximum size that a map in Minecraft can reach is 2048*2048 blocks.
The cartography table also has some other features. The player can lock a map in its current state using a glass pane. Just add a glass pane with a piece of paper to the cartography table. Any changes made to the world terrain will not be updated on the map once it’s locked. This is a great way to see the progress you’ve made with your base or a build. You can also copy a map with the cartography table. Add the map that you want to copy in one slot and an empty map in the other. This will copy the original map.
