Onedrive not syncing on Windows 11: Fixes & Workarounds

Is Onedrive not syncing on your Windows 11 computer? Read the following article carefully to overcome this issue quickly.

Onedrive has been the most trusted cloud storage service for Windows users for a long time now. The fact that it is integrated in the OS without having to do anything is the main reason for its success. The fluidity it offers in terms of syncing your files and making it accessible through File explorer, greatly adds to its success. However, after the launch of Windows 11, user reports about Onedrive not syncing files started to surface. If you too have been trying to solve this problem on your computer, then this article might be helpful. Take a look at some fixes you can use to make Onedrive sync your files on a Windows 11 computer.

1) Reset the app:

To reset the Onedrive app on your Windows 11 PC, go to Settings and click on Apps on the list on your left. Now, select ‘Apps and features’ and type ‘onedrive’ in the Search apps dialog box. Click the three dots that are in front of the application with a blue logo. Select Advanced options and scroll down to find Reset. Reset the application and check if the syncing issue is resolved.

2) Whitelist Onedrive on Windows Defender/Firewall Settings:

Click on the Windows icon on the taskbar and type firewall in the search box. Select Windows Firewall from the search result. On the left side, click on the option that says ‘Allow an app or feature through Windows firewall’. Click on the Change Settings option and tick the boxes in front of Onedrive. Select OK and check if Onedrive is successfully syncing your files.

3) Turn off Proxy server:

Open the Settings app and click on the ‘Network and Internet’ option from the left. In the new window, scroll down until you find Proxy and click on it. Under ‘Manual proxy setup’, click on Setup. If the proxy server is enabled, turn it off. Click on Save to save the changes. This should fix the Onedrive syncing issues on your Windows 11 PC.

4) DNS settings:

If you had changed the DNS settings on your PC in the past, it is quite possible that the syncing issue is the result of that. You should consider changing the DNS server to the default one. To do that, click on the network icon on the taskbar and open the ‘Network and internet settings’. Click on properties and scroll down to the IP settings. Select Edit and change the state of the setting to calibrate automatically. Save the changes and exit the window. This fix should solve the Onedrive syncing issue on Windows 11
