Apparently, Pokemon Go just got a new update under our nose! A Pokemon Go community (TheSilphroad) user on Reddit posted that the OSM or Open Street Map update on the game went live for West Coast. A series of comments by users revealed that it had gone live in several locations. How happy will a fan be if he wakes up to a new enhanced map visual in his favorite game? Very happy.
According to fans, the old streets that used to look greenish are now updated: they look like proper roads. They have more detailing and appear clearer now. New buildings have also been added to the map. The forests have a more realistic deep green color. Nests and spawns are also expected to have some changes.
Map Update not yet live for many users
Some users didn’t receive an automatic update on Pokemon Go as yet. However, their OSM for Ingress was updated. They were unhappy and confused. Ingress and Pokemon Go both pull data from Open Street Map but do so independent of each other. Hence, Ingress may update its data even if Pokemon Go doesn’t. It seems that the update is live only for selected cities and countries.
Users were waiting for the update for a long time. Some of them had huge parks near their locations, and those were not updated as nests as yet. Nests are locations in your virtual map where Pokemons appear with greater probability than usual areas.
It is anticipated that the game map will have some noticeable changes after the update since the last OSM update was in 2019.
We hope the map updates reflect in all locations as soon as possible!
