Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice was an instant hit, and has managed to earn various awards. Acknowledging the love that the game received, developer Ninja Theory and publisher Xbox Game Studios are back with yet another game in the series, Senua’s Sage Hellblade II. Released recently on May 21, 2024, the game’s premise is based on Senua’s journey in Viking Iceland. In addition to a phenomenal story, the game’s primary attraction is none other than its too-true-to-be-true visuals that have immersed the player base for good. Now, as the game has been released on both PC and Xbox Series X/S, it is obvious that some players might be looking to try it out on their handhelds, including Steam Deck, Asus Rog Ally, and Lenovo Legion Go. Well, if you are wondering about the same, consider reading as we have shared everything we know regarding the game’s compatibility with handhelds.
Traditional PCs as well as laptops can be very powerful, as they pack top-tier hardware to run games at the maximum settings possible. With powerful GPUs like 4090, there is no compromise in both visuals and FPS. But when it comes to handhelds, things are a bit tricky. A handheld’s USP is its portability and such powerful GPUs don’t even come close to being portable. Even a decent 2060 might be too much for a handheld’s form factor. Due to this, the system configuration of a handheld is significantly lower than that of a high-end PC. But that doesn’t mean it can’t run games. But before you spend your money in a game that you will be running on a handheld, it is always better to learn more about its compatibility, so that you have an idea of what to expect. That said, let’s see whether Senua’s Saga Hellblade II can be played on these devices.

Steam Deck
As of now, Senua’s Saga Hellblade II is neither listed as Verified nor Playable on Steam. But this is not surprising. Considering the developers/publishers’ primary focus on PC and Xbox and that the game was released recently, Valve hasn’t had enough time to try it out for the purpose of determining its compatibility with the Deck. But this is where player reports are very useful. Hours after the game went live, many players tried running it on their Decks, and to our surprise, Hellblade II’s performance is quite acceptable, given the game’s system requirements. The game has been reported to run at an average of 24-27 FPS with the Low Graphics preset, Upscaling On (AMD FSR 3), and Upscale Quality Mode: Performance/Balanced. So, it is definitely playable on the Steam Deck, but you will have to compromise on the visuals part. Also, it is recommended that you cap the in-game FPS to 30 first via the Deck’s Interface.
Asus Rog Ally and Lenovo Legion Go
Well, compared to the Deck, the Asus Rog Ally and Lenovo Legion Go pack a bit of an extra punch in terms of hardware. So, they can definitely run the game, with better FPS. Both these devices run on Windows OS, which means no compatibility issues. Now, due to this boost in hardware, you will get an average of 35-45 FPS based on the settings you apply in-game. If you use an Upscaler and then set the Upscaler Quality Mode to Ultra Performance, then FPS will be quite high. But, the visuals will take a huge hit. So, it is better that you stick to Quality, which will net you over 40 FPS in-game.
