If you have a knack for trains, you must have already tried SimRail: The Railway Simulator. It is a very realistic train simulation game that features a wide variety of trains, from EMU to heavy freight and suburban. Boasting a total of 500km of distance to travel, SimRail has an extremely detailed environment that is based on geodetic data. Well, it offers players both single-player and multiplayer (co-op) modes, but the real fun is enjoying it on the go. If you are reading this, you too must be wondering if your handheld can run this simulator. Well, consider reading until the end, as we have shared all the details regarding the compatibility support details of SimRail: The Railway Simulator on Steam Deck, Asus Rog Ally, and Lenovo Legion Go. Here’s everything you need to know.
SimRail The Railway Simulator is a one-of-a-kind experience. The game was released in January 2023 as an early access title and is still yet to receive its v1.0 version. Well, the developers have been releasing consistent updates for it to keep it relevant, and this seems to be very effective. Anyway, when it comes to enjoying it on the go, things aren’t quite that good, as the handheld experience isn’t what many expected from it.

Steam Deck
As of now, SimRail: The Railway Simulator is classified as a Playable title for the Steam Deck. This means that despite lacking the Deck-Verified badge, you can enjoy it on your Deck, but a few hiccups can come your way. One such is the lack of controller support in the game. Since this is not available, you will have to manually map all the in-game controls to the Steam Deck’s controller layer for the game to be able to recognize the inputs from your Deck. Well, things can change once the game is released, as shared by the developers:
Yes, controller & gamepad support will be available in full version of SimRail.
So, until the v1.0 version is released, you will have to use Steam Input to map the in-game controls or use a community-created layout. Apart from this, the Deck will be run to the game on an average of 25 FPS, so if that’s acceptable, you can give it a try.
Asus Rog Ally and Lenovo Legion Go
Compared to the Steam Deck, the Rog Ally, and Legion Go can handle the game quite well, but the controller issue will persist in these systems as well. So, as stated before, you will need to use Steam Input to manually map some of the in-game controls as per your preference.
