Sci-fi games that involve space exploration are some of the most popular games now. Back in 2023, the release of Starfield gave this genre a huge push, and to this day, the craze for space exploration hasn’t died down a bit. Catering to the demand of players, the v1.0 version of The Planet Crafter was released on April 10, 2024, and its release was a huge success. Although the game was doing well during its early access phase, the full release has attracted more players as it includes many new additions. One of the many is the online multiplayer mode that the developers promised players during the early access phase. However, as with any new feature, there is an issue with the game’s multiplayer mode that many have complained about. If you are reading this guide, you too must have encountered the same. So, consider reading until the end, as we have shared some workarounds to fix the issue for good.
The multiplayer mode in The Planet Crafter is a recently introduced feature that was in high demand during the game’s EA phase. Now that the game’s v1.0 has been released, a multiplayer (online co-op) game mode has been introduced that allows up to 10 players to play together. However, players have reported encountering issues when entering a multiplayer world via the join game option (code), as the screen becomes black and they are back to the main menu. So, if this sounds similar to the issue you are encountering, here are some workarounds worth trying.

The Planet Crafter Multiplayer not working: Is there any fix yet
As of now, there is no official fix for this issue or even an acknowledgement from the developers. So, all you can do now is try these workarounds:
1) Restart
Before trying any complex workarounds, we recommend giving the game and your system a restart. A system restart can sometimes do wonders. Although this seems like an issue related to the game itself, restarting your PC is still something we recommend doing first.
2) Check game version
If you didn’t already know, you and the players in an online multiplayer world have to be on the same game version to be able to play together. So, first, find out which version of the game you are on. Some players have shared that switching to the Development version fixed the issue for them. To do this, head over to Steam, go to Library, right-click on the game, and select Properties. After this, go to the Betas tab, and select the Development version. Once done, launch the game, and then check if you can join the world. If you are already on this version, ask your friends to do the same.
3) Log out/Log back in
As shared by a moderator of the game’s Steam Discussion forum, first, log out of the Steam client, log back in, and then launch the game. After this, try joining a world. And if this doesn’t fix the issue, ask the host to do the same.
4) Use Friend Invite
If you were using a join code until now to join a world, ask your friend to send you a direct invite (via Steam) instead of the join code. Do the same if you are the host.
5) Try again
As per a player, they were able to join the multiplayer world after repeating the process once they get kicked. So, what you need to do is, invite a friend or get invited to a world. If the game freezes, exit it using alt+f4, and then launch it again. Now, ask your friend to invite you again, and you should now be able to join.
6) Reinstall
If none of the given workarounds are of help, consider reinstalling the game. A fresh installation can sometimes fix such issues, but don’t expect too much.
7) Wait
Finally, if you continue to encounter the same issue, all you can do is wait for the developers to acknowledge the issue and fix it. Since this issue is troubling a lot of players, it is only a matter of time before the devs step in to save the day.
