Ever wondered why items dropped on the floor in Minecraft disappear after a certain time? It is because of a mechanism called despawning. All the items, mobs, and entities in Minecraft can despawn after a few minutes of no interaction by the player. This is the reason why you were unable to find your items even after going back to the coordinates where you dropped them in Minecraft. If a player does not manage to get back to the location in time, the items start despawning. The same applies to other entities and mobs.
How entities despawn in Minecraft?
Apart from the items dropped on the floor, entities like arrows, tridents, and leaves from completely cut down trees can despawn as well. Arrows and tridents can be collected easily by going close to them. An arrow or a trident stuck in a block will automatically go to the player’s inventory. To avoid losing a trident you can enchant it with loyalty. This way, as soon as you throw your trident, it will come back to you. Something similar can be done for arrows as well. Enchant your bow with infinity. An infinity enchant on your bow basically means that you have infinite arrows. With an infinity enchanted bow, you can keep shooting arrows until the bow breaks, even with a single arrow in your inventory.
Which mobs despawn in Minecraft?
Like the entities and items, even mobs can despawn in Minecraft. Hostile mobs like creepers tend to despawn during the daytime. But neutral and passive mobs can despawn as well. If the player does not interact with the mobs, they will be replaced with new mob spawns. Players can prevent this from happening by renaming the mob using a nametag. If you wish to keep a particular mob around, change its name and it won’t despawn. You can interact with the mobs to keep them from despawning as well. For example, if you want to prevent a villager from despawning, trade with it. Trading with a villager in Minecraft will count as an interaction and will not let it despawn.
Can you bring back despawned items or mobs?
The simple answer to this question is no. If you have lost your valuable items because they despawned before you could find them, all that is left to do is start grinding again. Work harder than before and obtain those items again. Because there is no way you can get those items back normally. You can always turn on cheats and spawn in the items you lost. But that takes away from the experience. All players have to go through the frustration of losing their items and valuable mobs due to the despawn mechanism in Minecraft. At least it’s not as bad as losing your hardcore world forever!
