Hearthstone, created and published by Blizzard, is an online strategy-based card game that lets you play against friends or randoms. It also features modes that endorse solo adventures against the environment. To top all of it, Hearthstone is completely free-to-play. There are a lot of game modes available in Hearthstone. However, there are three ways you can choose to play them. You can go PvP (against other players), PvE (against environment), or Co-Op (team up with friends against environment or other players). Well, not all modes in Hearthstone let you play Co-Op, PvP, or PvE – it depends on the format. Here are more details:
1) Standard: Only PvP
2) Classic: Only PvP
3) Wild: Only PvP
4) Battlegrounds: Only PvP
5) Mercenaries: PvP and PvE
6) Arena: Only PvP
7) Tavern Brawls: PvP, PvE, and Co-Op
8) Solo Adventures: PvE
9) Duels: PvP, PvE, and Co-Op
10) Fireside Gatherings: PvP, PvE, and Co-Op
Note: Public Fireside Gatherings are presently disabled due to the pandemic.
How to invite and play Hearthstone with friends?
You can choose to challenge your friends for a 1 v 1 Duel or a Co-Op match. However, to invite friends, you will need to Sign Up via a Battle.net account. You can go ahead and add friends to your list using their Battle.net tag. Here’s how you can invite a friend for a 1 v 1 Duel:
1) Firstly, open the Social tab by selecting or tapping the Person icon in the game’s lobby screen.
2) If you aren’t signed up or logged in, make sure you do that to access your friend list.
3) Tap/Select the friend’s name and tap on Invite.
4) Next, select the Duel game mode.
5) Now, select the type of gameplay: Standard, Wild, Tavern Brawls (if available), or Classic.
6) Lastly, complete the process of deck selection and begin the match!

How to invite and play Battlegrounds mode with friends?
You can invite up to seven friends in the Battlegrounds mode. Follow this process:
1) Firstly, open the Social tab by selecting or tapping the Person icon in the game’s lobby screen.
2) If you aren’t signed up or logged in, make sure you do that to access your friend list.
3) Tap/Select the friend’s name and tap on Invite.
4) Lastly, select the Battlegrounds game mode.
Repeat the same process to invite other friends to your Battlegrounds match. You can participate in the ranked Battlegrounds ladder if you are a party of four. However, if your party is of five or more, it would be considered as a private Battlegrounds match and wouldn’t affect ranks.
Depending on the type of event, a Tavern Brawl game can let you and your friends/opponents team up and play against an enemy environment or other players. You can also choose to team up in a Battlegrounds match by joining a match and communicating privately. This will automatically give you and your friend an advantage over players who choose to go solo in a ranked Battlegrounds match. Fireside Gatherings are public groups that let you team up or play against other players.
