The BBC iplayer app is a video streaming service. It provides all its shows and some additional content for online viewers. The BBC iplayer is available for a large variety of devices, which also includes Samsung TV. However, the BBC iplayer experience for Samsung TV users may not be as smooth in comparison to users on other devices. Numerous user reports suggest that Samsung TV users have to deal with a lot of errors with the BBC iplayer app. But, users with TV models from other manufacturers don’t seem to be bothered with any of those problems. So, why are these problems arising for Samsung TV users specifically? And what are the solutions for the errors with BBC iplayer on a Samsung TV? Keep reading to find out.
Reasons for BBC iplayer not working on Samsung TV:
The main reason behind this issue on Samsung TVs is the expiration of security certificates. But, the good thing is that an update has already been pushed through for most of the Samsung models. And generally, updates are downloaded automatically on a smart TV. But, if that’s not the case, you might have to manually install the update on your TV. It’s really not that difficult. Just explore the options in the Settings menu. The update options can appear at different locations in the Settings for different TV models.
But there are some Samsung TV models for which updates were released after several days passed by. This was mainly because, these were older models. Hence, it took longer for their security certificates to be revised. The updates are out nonetheless. So before going forward with any of the troubleshooting methods mentioned below, try to install the latest update for your Samsung TV (if not done already). It may be enough to fix the issue with the BBC iplayer app on your TV. If you have already updated your system and the BBC iplayer is still not working on your Samsung TV then proceed with the steps mentioned below.

Fixes and workarounds:
1) Update the app:
Before trying anything else, the most logical thing to try would be updating the BBC iplayer app on your Samsung TV. Either check for updates manually or switch on the auto-update feature. Go to Apps and select the Cog icon. Enable Auto-update. Leave the TV on for some time and restart it using your remote. Check if the BBC iplayer app is working fine.
2) Clear app cache:
If updating the application did not help, try to clear the app cache. Press the Home button on the remote and select Settings. Now go to Apps > System apps and select the BBC iplayer app. Select ‘Clear cache’ and confirm the process. Now, relaunch the BBC iplayer app on your Samsung TV. Check if it has started working as intended. Follow the next method if this one failed.
3) Reboot TV:
Rebooting your TV will reconfigure the settings and hopefully solve any system glitches. Turn off your TV and unplug the power cable. Press hold the power button on the TV for more than 30 seconds. Now, plug back the power cable and turn on your TV. This should solve the BBC iplayer not working error.
4) Power cycle your router:
To ensure that there are no connectivity issues, you should try to power cycle your router. Turn of your router and unplug the power cable. Keep it that way for a few minutes. Then plug the power cable back and turn it on. Connect the Wi-Fi to your TV and check if the issue is resolved.
5) Factory reset TV:
If it turns out that your connection is fine, try factory resetting your TV. This might sound like a drastic step. But, given that none of the above fixes worked on the BBC iplayer app on your Samsung TV, it is safe to say that this is your only choice.
Press Menu button on your remote > Support > Self-diagnosis > Reset > Enter TV pin > Follow on screen prompts to confirm process.
