Did you watch Jurassic Park 3 and instantly know that you want to ride a Spino around? Well, Ark Survival Ascended has come to your rescue. Ark brings with it some exciting PvP and PvE survival gameplay and a lot of dinosaurs. The recent upgrade in graphics and gameplay with the Ark Survival Ascended release also made it on par with some of the bigger-budget AAA titles around right now. Apart from the baby dino taming and the new resources, not much has changed in the game. This, luckily, also includes taming Spinos. So, if you are wondering how to tame a spino in ASA, consider reading this guide until the end.
Taming is a very important aspect of Ark Survival Ascended. It essentially allows you to claim dinosaurs and command them, or use them to get around the map. They have various abilities and can also help you harvest a lot of resources. Some of the larger dinosaurs in-game can really come in handy when you have to fight as well. This makes taming a very important aspect of the game. Unfortunately, it is also a very intricate and delicate process, with a lot of scope for error.
Ark Survival Ascended (ASA) Spino Taming Guide: How to tame & get it?
Taming a Spino in ASA is no easy task. These large dinosaurs are almost the same size as a Rex, deal about the same damage, and are a lot more aggressive. They will come at you by sensing your presence from a long distance and can deal a lot of damage. Your best bet until you are ready to tame them is to stay away and hope that they do not spot you.
How to tame it?
To tame a spino, you will need to knock it out. It is a common knockout tame, so you can take your time to knock it out once you trap it. We recommend trapping it because this can quickly turn ugly if you are not aware of your surroundings or aren’t paying enough attention to the dinos. To build a trap, we recommend 4x Behemoth Dinosaur Gateways and 2x Behemoth Doors. Once you set them up with human-sized gaps for you to get out, lure the dino in and trap it in there by shutting the gate. This is an essential step because Spinos are very aggressive and will attack almost anything. This means they also get distracted very easily, which is why you should focus on trapping them first.
Once trapped, knock it out using a longneck rifle and tranq darts. This will ensure that the Spino does not die because it has quite high torpor and the crossbow will deal too much damage. Once knocked out, you can feed it exceptional kibble or raw mutton. If you don’t have either, starve-taming is the best option. For this option, you will have to knock it out two times. The first time it will wake up after being very hungry. The second knockout will be when you feed it to tame it. This will make sure it eats multiple bites quickly, and you lose less taming effectiveness that way. Raw Prime Fish meat works best if you don’t have mutton to tame it with.
