Want to play Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 with friends? That is absolutely possible! However, the developers haven’t yet added an option for you and your friend to share a cockpit. Everyone has to fly their own plane. At launch, several players found themselves struggling to understand the multiplayer mechanics. However, in 2022, most of us have managed to grasp the complexity. How to play Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 with friends?
To play the popular flight sim with friends, you will need to make sure that you and your friends are on the same server. Open the World Map tab and then select the icon denoting your Xbox Live profile on the top-right. Here, you will see a dropdown for the available servers in the game. In order to play multiplayer with friends, all of you need to be on the same server. We recommend choosing the server of the region you are actually in; also tell your friends to check whether they are on the same server as you. Try choosing a server with a low ping to avoid any connection issues or annoying glitches.

Once you have made sure of servers, select the option for Flight Conditions. Now, you will see options to customize your game type. For Multiplayer, you will have three options: Live Players, All Players, and Group Only. We will be breaking down each one of those options:
1) Choosing Live Players mode will get you in with players who have chosen the same mode on the same server. However, all of you will be experiencing the same time zone and live weather conditions.
2) Choosing All Players mode will get you in with all players who have chosen the same mode on the same server. But, each one of you will be experiencing different time zones or weather conditions [depending on choice]. This will depend on what a player chooses under Air Traffic and Weather & Time settings.
3) If you choose Group Only, only the players you invite will spawn in the World Map of Microsoft Flight Simulator. And, the Air Traffic & Weather/Time conditions will be the same for all players in the group, depending on the group owner’s choice.
How to invite friends and play Microsoft FS 2020 together?
You can invite friends to join your team on any of the Multiplayer Modes of Microsoft Flight Simulator. However, your friends will have to choose the same multiplayer mode and server as you. Additionally, you will also need to add your friends to your Xbox Live Friend List first. Once you have them added to your list, head over to your profile [top-right] and choose the Friends option. Next, click/select the profile of the friend you want to invite and choose INVITE TO GROUP. If your friend(s) accept your request, they will show up in a group. All of you can then load up the World Map and spot each other – friends in your group will be distinguishable through icons.
