Wondering how to invite your friends to play a game of Rust together? Well, the popular survival game endorses teaming up vigorously but lacks user-friendliness when it comes to the inviting process. You cannot directly invite a friend to join your team in Rust. Instead, you will need to find each other on the vast map. Sounds annoying and difficult at the same time, huh? Well, you gotta do what needs to be done in Rust – it’s an unfair and rigorous game after all!
It’s hard but not impossible to locate your friends on the Rust map. But before you start on the journey, you will need to keep two things in mind:
A, you and your friends will need to join the same server!
B, you will need to craft a sleeping bag once in the game!
Let’s discuss the entire process, shall we?
How to invite and play Rust with friends?
Here’s the simple three-step process:
1) Launch the game.
2) Join a server that can accommodate both you and your friends.
3) Tell your friends to search for the same server and join it.
4) Voila! You are in the same game as your friends.
But, this doesn’t necessarily mean that you and your friends will spawn close to each other in the game. If you do, in fact, spawn close to each other luckily, you can open the menu in-game and hit Create Team to start building your team. Move near your friend’s in-game character and select Invite to Team. Repeat this process for all your friends to complete building your team. Note that the maximum number of players in a team is 8.
Now, let’s come to the annoying part. If you and your friends don’t spawn near each other, you will have to perform a workaround to find them. Follow these steps:
1) Find enough hemp and gather enough cloth in the game to craft a sleeping bag.
2) Now, put the sleeping bag on the ground, open up the menu and select Give to Friend.
3) Doing so will assign your sleeping bag’s position as your friend’s respawn point.
4) Your friend can then execute himself and choose to respawn at your location.
Follow the above process for all your friends to find each other! And, you can then select Invite to Team to play the game with them as a team.

There’s another way you can locate each other. Communicate between each other and note down your friends’ coordinates. You can find your coordinates by opening up the Rust map. Travel to your friend’s location, ask him/her to travel to you or decide to meet at a particular point. This process may be time-consuming depending on how far your spawn point is from your friend’s.
Creating a private server
Private servers let you and your friends play a game of Rust without having to encounter random players. This is an option more suitable for veteran Rust players and fans as the process of creating a server is quite laborious and requires you to know how to operate a command prompt. Read this detailed article by The Gamer to know how to create a private Rust server for free. Rust Console Edition doesn’t have the option to create a private server yet. However, the developers are planning on adding such an option soon. So, as of now, you can create a private server only if you play Rust PC.
You can also choose to buy a subscription to private Rust servers. However, buying Rust servers can be expensive and needs you to commit to a monthly cost. It can be a good option if you and your friends play a lot of Rust but aren’t willing to go through the havoc process of creating a private server.
