A name tag is also used by experienced players when creating automatic farms that need a certain mob to be in a fixed place. Tagging this mob becomes important because, the mob can de-spawn if the player leaves the chunk, the farm is in.
Consider an ‘iron golem farm’ for example. The basic idea in every ‘iron golem farm’ is that a ‘zombie’ will have a clear sight towards a few ‘villagers’ which will make the villagers feel threatened. How to make a name tag in Minecraft-
Unfortunately, a name tag is one of those items that cannot be crafted by a player. A name tag can only be found in naturally generated loot chests around the Minecraft world. Nametags can also be obtained by trading with a librarian villager and by fishing. Let’s first take a look at the more RNG based methods to find a name tag-
1) Loot chest:
Name tag in Minecraft can be found in a chest in various structures. These structures include temples, woodland mansions, dungeons, mineshaft, and nether fortresses. Finding a nametag in these places is completely random. So, you might have to do a lot of exploring before you can find it.
2) Fishing:
Fishing is a relaxing and fun activity both in real life and in Minecraft. What could be better than enjoying your time fishing while also finding loot that can help you progress in the game? Though with a non-enchanted fishing rod, the player only has a 0.8% chance of finding a nametag. These odds aren’t very appealing. But you can increase your odds by adding two enchantments to your fishing rod- ‘Lure’ and ‘Luck of the sea’. ‘Lure’ helps in attracting a fish to your line and ‘Luck of the sea’ increases your chance of finding rare loot.
But if you still don’t want to go by these methods, there is one way through which you will definitely get a name tag.
3) Trading:
Trading with a ‘librarian village’ for a name tag in Minecraft is a sure-shot method of obtaining them. Keep trading with a librarian villager until it reaches ‘Master’ level. After that you will be provided with a trade for a name tag at the cost of 19 or 20 emeralds.
Special features/ Easter eggs-
1) If you name a mob ‘Dinnerbone’, the mob turns upside down.
2) If you name a rabbit ‘Toast’ its coat will change color. The regular rabbit will turn into a white one with black patches, giving it an interesting look.
3) Naming a ‘Vindicator’ ‘Johnny’ will make it hostile towards each and every mob in the game.
4) Naming a sheep ‘Jeb_’ makes it change the color of its wool rapidly.
