iRacing was first created and released back in 2008, but the online racing sim only reached its peak popularity during the pandemic. As of now, iRacing’s popular service is only available on PC via a website and a local client. The simulator features over a hundred popular racing cars and tracks and also hosts competitive online races from time to time. It’s obvious that motorsport fans on consoles will envy their friends on PC who get to participate in iRacing. Wondering whether iRacing will release on consoles? Well, such a release is neither confirmed nor likely. Moreover, iRacing.com Motorsport Simulations (the developers) also don’t seem to be interested in a console release for iRacing. Read this article to know more about the situation.
As you may already know, iRacing.com Motorsport Simulations recently acquired Monster Games and Orontes Games. It is obvious that the officials have plans to expand its market in the future. According to reports, iRacing may make use of Monster Games’ and Orontes Games’ experience and resources to build something new in the days to come. Such plans could also include console support for iRacing. But, a more viable option would be to build a successor to iRacing which includes both PC and console support.
Will there be an iRacing console edition?

The developers seem to be against sim racing on consoles and it’s probably better that way. According to an official post on the website, a competitive racing sim will be able to show its true potential on PC only. This is because a PC is more largely powered than a console, providing technologies that can support more life-like racing scenes. They aren’t wrong at all! The post also talks about how easy it is to fix glitches and bugs on PC compared to consoles. You can read the entire post here.
So, it’s highly unlikely that the racing sim will receive a port for Xbox One, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and Nintendo Switch. Even if it does, it’s not going to happen anytime soon. A more justified guess would be that iRacing may be planning something entirely new; maybe a console exclusive experience. Here’s what the official post about the acquisition said:
The acquisition will bring another level of expertise under the iRacing roof, and further the company’s ability to bring the highest quality racing games to the broader market, including the console space.
Something’s cooking, but it doesn’t seem to be including the racing sim we already have! The post also clarified that iRacing’s development team will continue to focus on the core product. Many reports suggest that either Monster Games or Orontes Games is going to announce a new title under the shadow of iRacing.com Motorsport Simulations in 2022. Along with that, we may get to see some awesome updates to our favorite online racing sim. For more updates, stay tuned to us!
