Security devices are the most important devices connected to your house. They serve a very serious purpose and an issue with them can put a lot of things in jeopardy. The Nest Cam is one of the most well-known security devices on the market. And while using the Nest Cam, users don’t really expect problems with its features and services. However, the way a feature or a service would perform depends on the factors necessary for it. A lapse in these factors can cause the failure of many different features and services. One of the most important features of a Nest cam is the notifications. Whenever the camera captures movement in any of the present zones, it sends a notification to your phone through the Nest app. However, if this feature fails to work for you, here are some steps you can try in order to fix it.
Fixes for Nest Cam not sending notifications:
Check server status:
Your Nest cam can fail to send you notifications if the Nest servers are not working. If you want to know about the current working status of the Nest servers, click here. Read through all the details provided on the page to know if any of the services provided by Nest is affected. If the servers are down, wait for some time and the notifications will be sent to you when the camera spots movement.
Check if the device is online:
You need to check if your device shows as “offline” in the Nest app. Open the Nest app on your phone and check if the camera you are expecting notifications from is offline. If it is, there must be a problem with the wifi which is looked into in the next step.
Check internet connection:
As mentioned above, your internet connection may be affected, stopping your Nest Cam from sending you any notifications. Power cycle your router to fix any minor issues with the network. If your internet connection is not working at all, contact your ISP to get it fixed as soon as possible.
Check the permissions:
This step is mainly for the Nest app installed on your phone. If the app does not have permission to push notifications on your phone, you will not receive any notifications from the Nest Can until it’s too late. Hence, go to the device settings and search for the Notifications settings. Select the Nest app and toggle the button in front of it “on” so it has permission to push notifications on the device. After this step, the Nest Cam you are using will send out notifications normally.
Account settings:
There are two things you need to check with your Nest account. The first one is that if you are signed into your Nest account at all, and the second is to check if you are signed into the right account. Check the Nest app and make the changes necessary.
Device settings:
The last thing you need to check is the settings on the mobile device which has your Nest account logged in. Devices do not show any notifications if either DND is activated or the device is on silent mode. Both of these settings can be changed by accessing the sound settings. You can easily bring up sound settings on any phone by pressing the volume button. So remove your phone from DND or Silent and then check if Nest Cam sends you notifications.
