According to the developers, you can reserve a character name just by creating a character on any available server. You don’t have to be in-game to do so. Just create a character in New World and input its name. You can delete a character later on. If you delete a character, its name will be available to your account after a small delay of a minute or two. However, according to many reports, the name may be locked to an account for up to ninety days. As a result, peeps have criticized Amazon Games for the bad execution of the character name system. But, the actual lock-in time is not confirmed yet.
Character names are global and hence, take some time to be fully available to other accounts after the deletion of an account. However, you can also create more than one character in New World. But, only one character per region/server is allowed. It is unclear whether it is one per region or server. All the basic doubts regarding the video game’s mechanics will be solved tomorrow with the launch.
