Facing problems with the Plex app on your Firestick? Here are some methods that can help you fix the situation pretty easily!
Plex is not your typical streaming service. It lets users access any type of content, whether it be live channels, on-demand movies and shows, or your own personal library. The setup might be a bit too much for some people, but it is the go to video streaming service for many. Users have to setup their own server to broadcast videos that are saved on your device to other devices connected via Plex. This is a great way to access your videos from anywhere you want. However, users have been reporting that Plex is not working as it is supposed to on their Firestick device. The error can be very inconvenient if not taken care of immediately. For every user who might be suffering with this issue right now, here is a list of solutions to get Plex working again.
Fixes for Plex not working on Firestick:
1) Update Plex on your server:
Users that do not run their servers from time to time can often come across problems like these. If you haven’t updated Plex on your server, now might be a good time to do so. Run your server and ‘Force an Update’ for Plex. Once, Plex is updated, there shouldn’t be any problems with accessing content on your Firestick.
2) Force Stop/Clear cache:
Go to Settings > Applications > Manage installed applications > Plex. There will a list of options in front of you. First, select ‘Force stop’ and wait for a few seconds. Then select ‘Clear cache’. Now, run Plex on your Fire stick and check if it is working correctly. If not, try the next step.
3) Reinstall app:
Uninstalling the application will delete the files associated with Plex from your Firestick. This will potentially get rid of a corrupted file that might be causing this issue. So, uninstall Plex from your Firestick by going to Settings > Applications > Manage installed applications > Plex. Select uninstall and restart your Firestick. Install the app again and check if everything works normally.
4) Update Device Firmware:
Updating your system will provide tools that will pair better with latest apps. Every Plex user is upset about the recent update that ruined things for Firestick users. But, updating your Firestick might just be the solution you were looking for. Go to Settings > Fire TV > My Fire TV > About > Check for system updates. Update your Firestick and run Plex again to check the results of doing so.
Plex recently confirmed that a few file types might not be played on Firestick. So, if you are trying to play a video from your own library, check the type of file first. There is a huge possibility that you might be trying to play an unsupported file type. You can also roll back Plex to an older version which might be more stable and compatible on your Firestick. Lastly, make sure you try power cycling your TV and Firestick – this includes switching off the TV followed by unplugging all cables and the Firestick from the TV and waiting for a couple of minutes before plugging them back in and switching on the TV.
