For those who are unfamiliar, Plex is a multimedia streaming service that is used by many. It is a great service since it is a one-stop solution for most of the entertainment content you might want to watch. Plex merges live TV, on demand shows and movies and a personal library together, to make your experience worthwhile. The personal library is the best feature on the app. You can add your personal video and other multimedia files to your account from a device, like a computer. You can then access those videos from your Roku or Samsung TV or any other device. So essentially, users can play their own videos, on-demand from any device they want.
For many users, Plex might be the primary source of entertainment. Hence, it is important that the app does not fail to do its job. Fixes for Plex not working on Samsung TV:
1) Allow insecure connection:
In a recent update, many Tizen-based Samsung TVs were affected by this problem. Plex updated its security certificates which affected some TV models. According to the email received by some users, some Samsung devices would no longer be able to use secure connections to exchange information from Plex servers. To fix this issue, in the Plex app, go to Settings > Advanced > Allow Insecure Connections. Set it to ‘Always’. This should potentially fix your issue.
2) Update app:
An outdated app can be the reason for the Plex app not working on your Samsung TV. Press the Smart Hub button on your remote. Now follow these steps- Featured > Plex app > Press the Enter button on the remote > Update app > Update. This will initiate an update for the Plex app on your device. The Navigations might change depending on your TV model. But you will easily find similar option leading to the update on your TV. Update the Plex app on your Samsung TV and check if the issue is solved.
3) Update device firmware:
To update your Samsung TV firmware, press the Home button on remote > Settings > Support > Software update > Update Now. Let the update download. Then, launch the Plex application and check if you are still facing the problems from before. Hopefully, updating the system firmware will solve the issue for you. If not, try the next method.
4) Re-install the app:
Uninstall the Plex app from your Tv first. To do that, go to Smart Hub > Apps > my apps > Options (top of the screen) > Delete My Apps > Select Plex > Delete. This will remove the Plex app from your TV and delete the associated files as well. Now reinstall the app by searching for it in the Apps section. Run the app and see if you are still facing problems.
