So, even if the Steam Deck can operate the game, you will still need to make some tweaks and lower the settings to make the gaming experience smoother on your device. But before diving into that, let’s see the minimum system requirements of the game to get an idea about what we are dealing with:
- Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
- OS: Windows 10 – April 2018 Update (v1803)
- Processor: Intel® Core™ i7-4770K / AMD Ryzen 5 1500X
- Memory: 12 GB RAM
- Graphics: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 6GB / AMD Radeon RX 480 4GB
- Network: Broadband Internet connection
- Storage: 150 GB available space
- Sound Card: Direct X Compatible
As you can see, RDR 2 requires a lot of firepower. Although Steam Deck still manages to run the game, you will have to adjust some settings to make the game run smoother. Luckily, there is an effective solution available to stop the crashing of the game. The first thing that you need to do is uninstall the game. After that, you will have to download it again. Now, while the game is downloading, you will have to enter desktop mode. Now, install ProtonUP-QT on your Steam Deck. After this, install the Proton-GE 7.20 via ProtonUP-QT before you start the installation process for RDR 2.
Once you install the Proton-GE 7.20, you will be able to choose from a list of options in the Steam settings. For example, you will get the settings for the game, compatibility options, etc. Now, start the installation process. However, when the prompt appears to continue installation on the C drive or C:/, immediately press the Steam button and exit. After this, head over to the game settings via Steam compatibility. From here, choose Proton 6.30-8 and then finish the installation process.
Once you complete the installation, head over to the Graphics settings. Put the lighting and textures in ultra and every other option to low. Also, put the display to Windowed Borderless and set the Refresh Rate to 40hz. Now, you will be able to smoothly run the game without any crashing issues. On this note, we hope that you will be able to enjoy RDR 2 on Steam Deck without any worries. Also, for more updates in the world of tech and gaming, do not forget to visit Androidgram.
