The SmartCast feature on the Vizio TV makes it so that users can freely use Chromecast, Airplay and also set up Homekit if they like. Such variety allows users to freely use the device of their choice to cast media to the TV. And it is important for the features promised by Vizio to deliver when users need it. However, as you can tell by the title of this post, some users are not able to use AirPlay on their Vizio TV. Fixes for Vizio AirPlay not working:
Reconnect AirPlay:
A user with a similar problem on their device tried reconnecting Airplay by simply toggling the Airplay option on the Vizio, on and off. You will find this option in the Vizio SmartCast settings pane. Toggle the AirPlay feature on and off. Do the same for your Apple device. After reconnecting, try casting something to the TV. If this worked for other users, it can work for you as well.
Update system software:
To use the AirPlay feature on the Vizio TV successfully, the iOS version on your Apple device should be atleast 12.4. If that’s not the case with your device then try updating the system software. Go to the settings app and search for “update” in the search bar at the top of the screen. Select System update from the search results and then check if your device can be updated. If it can, install the update and check if AirPlay works.
You should also check if there are updates lined up for your Vizio TV. To check that, press the Menu button on your remote and go to System > Check for updates. The most recent version for the OS will automatically start downloading. Let it install and then check if AirPlay works the way it should.
Enable Airplay:
Press the V button or the Home button on your Vizio remote. This will take you to the SmartCast Home. Go to Extras and check that AirPlay is “On”.
Connect both devices to the same network:
This is very important when trying to use AirPlay on Vizio TV. Actually, this step has to be followed for all casting services. Both the recipient and host device participating in the AirPlay should be on the same wifi network. If you are casting with your phone, it is possible to leave your cellular data on. This can hinder the AirPlay features. If the devices are not on the same network, change that.
