Setting up a Minecraft server using a third-party service can be confusing. So many different choices and prices are often overwhelming. Realm is a solution provided by Minecraft. Realms is basically a way by which you can rent a multiplayer server from within the game. Being supported by Minecraft directly, there are many features that are not available through third-party servers. The operator has the liberty to control who joins the server by sending out invitations. You also get access to some of the marketplace content. With Realms, you can create new things or just play survival Minecraft with your friends. The choice is completely yours.
Apart from the features mentioned above, Realms is optimized to suit different platforms. Realms have separate servers for Windows 10 edition, Pocket edition, and Bedrock. These servers run a uniform code to avoid incompatibility or problems in cross-play. The servers for the Java edition are also built separately on Realms. If players are not satisfied with the features and service of Realms, they can always upgrade to Realms Plus. Realms plus is available for 7.99 USD per month on any platform. All the features that you owned previously with Realms will now be increased. You can also back up your Minecraft worlds to cloud storage provided with the Realms Plus subscription.
How to start Realms on Minecraft:
You just need to launch the game and select Play. Go to Create New and click on Realms. The regular Realms subscription costs 3.99 USD. So you can either go with the regular subscription or Realm Plus. It depends on your needs and expectations with the server. Now follow the setup procedure that is suggested on your screen. Setting up Realms is similar to setting up a new world. Select the settings that you prefer and you are good to go! You and your friends should be able to play in the same world without any issues. If you are wondering if other players need to have a Realms subscription as well, let me tell you, that’s not the case. A single Realms subscription is enough for multiple players to join the same server.
A major drawback:
While everything with Realms on Minecraft seems about right, there is a small problem. Depending on your preferences, the problem can be a lot bigger actually. Realms or Realms plus does not support the addition of mods to the game. You cannot use mods on your server to enhance the gameplay. Mods are essential in making the game look or feel more interesting. And with friends, everything should be about fun and enjoyment. But, players will have to make do with what Minecraft itself has to offer. That is the only downside that bothers some players. If you are not into using mods or addons, you can dive headfirst into Minecraft Realms without a second thought!
