Ark Survival Ascended (ASA) is finally out for PC players. The new version of Ark brings with it many changes to taming, resource locations, and other mechanics. There are also a ton of QoL changes made to this game to make it better than the original ASE. Some things, however, don’t change. How dinosaurs handle and behave is one such aspect. Many of the dinos that got a TLC in Ark Survival Evolved, like the Stegosaurus, have not changed since their debut in ASA. Some players who have lost touch with the game since this TLC might have difficulty understanding the new mechanics of Stegos and some other dinos. Anyway, if you find that your Stegosaurus is not harvesting any one of the resources, including Berries, Thatch, or Wood, then you should read this guide to understand why this happens.
Most dinos and creatures in Ark have very specific uses. This is true for many of the maps and locations in both ASE and ASA. While two types of dinos can be used for the same purpose, there is usually one that is much better at it than the other. Examples of these are Allos and Rexes for boss fights. While the Allos get a pack buff and a bleed (when in a pack), the Rexes have sheer power and DPS, which makes them the preferred choice of many. However, some dinos are best for harvesting, and the Stegosaurus is among some of the best. So, if the harvesting skill of the dino is not working, things can get pretty difficult.
Ark Survival Ascended (ASA) Stegosaurus Not Harvesting Berries/Thatch/Wood: How to fix?
Stegos are herbivores. They are passive until attacked by the player, and they are usually in a herd or around a herd. This makes them very dangerous dinos to tackle and tame since the entire herd will attack you if you attack any one of them. Taming them is also made difficult by their post-TLC attributes, which make them resistant to damage.
Stegos Acting up?
So you have a tamed stego and aren’t able to harvest the specific resources with it? This is a common issue among many players. Since the Stego TLC in ASE, there are now buffs and modes for the Stego as well. You can switch between these modes with the ‘C’ key on your PC. There are 3 modes, each with a resistance buff and a harvesting buff. Based on which mode you are in, the stego will harvest different items.
What are the modes?
Well, here are the three different modes of the Stegosaurus:
- Hardened Plate: Damage taken is halved, and receives the wood harvesting buff.
- Heavy Plate: Applies slow when attacking with the tail whip, and receives the thatch harvesting buff.
- Sharpened Plate: Attacking with the Tail whip applies an armor-penetrating effect and receives the berries harvesting buff.
These plate modes make the Stego an excellent dino for multiple scenarios. It is a legitimate contender for both PvP and PvE play because of these changes. It has become an excellent tank because of the damage resistance (like the triceratops head), and with the armor piercing, it can actually be used for PvP play.
Apart from these changes, the plate modes also change what you can harvest. You will have significant advantages in harvesting these resources over all others. Since it is an herbivore, you can harvest thatch, wood, and berries with it. Based on your requirements, we recommend changing the plate mode. If the Stegosaurus is not harvesting the required resource, it is most likely due to the wrong plate mode (can be changed by pressing C). The plate mode will display on the top right corner of your screen when you change it.
