Want to play Battlefield 2042 with your friends on different consoles? You can use the crossplay feature to do so! Another good thing the developers did was to add crossplay at the beta phase itself. But, did the feature act the same way it was expected to?
Many video games plan crossplay at a later stage and thus, leave players demanding/requesting the feature for months. Shooter games like Battlefield 2042 will obviously have a player base spread over all types of hardware. Also, the Battlefield series of video games is quite well known. DICE has already acquired a minimum returning player base for Battlefield 2042. Adding the crossplay feature at beta was not only expected but was also justified. With the beta phase concluding a few days back, players will have to wait until the official launch to play the Battlefield 2042. According to some reports, many players faced server bottlenecks during the beta phase when they tuned on the crossplay feature. It is not a bizarre occurrence as turning on crossplay will include players from all platforms in matchmaking. For a video game in the beta phase, the situation can run out of control very quickly. Hence, many peeps resorted to turning off crossplay during the beta phase even if they faced a longer matchmaking time as a result. Also, the crossplay feature didn’t really work the way it was intended to.
The crossplay feature in the beta phase only allowed players to play in lobbies where players were on different platforms. But, players were not allowed to team up in cross-gen parties. Now, that’s disappointing. However, the developers confirmed that crossplay parties would be added at launch. That’s a relief for best friends! Moreover, the crossplay feature in Battlefield 2042 works a little differently. You can team up between PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S (next-gen platforms). If you are on Xbox One (prev-gen), you can only team up with PS4 (prev-gen) players. Here’s how you can turn on crossplay in Battlefield 2042 at launch.
1) Go to the Options Menu and then the General Tab.
2) In the General Sub-tab, scroll down and find the Crossplay option.
3) Toggle the option from OFF to ON.
4) Crossplay will now be enabled.
Easy, right? Now that you know how to enable crossplay in Battlefield 2042, see you on November 12 at the early access! For more articles on Battlefield 2042, stay tuned.
