There are several goals in Pokémon Go, but one of the most obvious is collecting rare Pokémon. However, as with much of Pokémon go, Pokémon rarity is a science, with much of it based on anecdote and community-sourced findings. Some of the most legendary pokemon include Lapras, Snorlax, Porygon, Hitmonlee, Hitmonchan, Chansey, and Aerodactyl. But how uncommon is the Porygon?
What is Porygon?
Porygon is a Kanto-region Normal-type Pokémon. When fed 25 candies and given an upgrade, it evolves into Porygon2, and its final evolution is Porygon-Z. Porygon is said to be so rare, it has only been seen by a small number of players. However, unlike many of the rare Pokémon on this list, the extremely rare Pokémon does not require a 10km egg. Porygon, like Tauros, can be obtained by hatching a 5km egg. While this may appear to be a lot easier than finding and hatching a 10km egg, it isn’t because a player only has to walk half the distance. While a 10km egg can hatch 17 different Pokémon, a 5km egg can hatch 42 different characters, with the possibility of hatching the same Pokémon twice or more. To put it simply, gamers must be extremely fortunate to come across this rare Pokémon.
Porygon is not uncommon due to the infamous episode of the television series. It is rare because it is always rare. Porygon could only be obtained in the original games (and most of the newer ones) by purchasing it in the game corner, which required a large number of coins (9999 in red, 6500 in blue). In fact, Porygon can only be obtained through trading from other versions of the game in many of the games.
Is Porygon popular in Pokemon Go?
Porygon is probably unpopular because it has distinctly average power and abilities (at least until Porygon2 and PorygonZ were introduced), and it is of the normal type. This combination of difficulty to obtain and relative weakness is most likely why you don’t see Porygon very often.
One of these species is Porygon. To evolve it into Porygon2, a ‘Virtual Pokemon’ that first appeared in Johto, a rare Upgrade product is required. It’s difficult enough to obtain Evolution Items in regular games like Sword & Shield. However, unless you’re lucky, there’s no guarantee of catching one in Pokemon Go.
You’ll need 50 Porygon Candy and a spare Upgrade item to evolve Porygon into Porygon2. Once you’ve gathered the necessary materials, choose your favorite Porygon from your collection, evaluate its stats, and then click ‘Evolve’ to see the animation.
Obtaining an Upgrade in Pokemon Go appears difficult, but since Porygon appears to be the only type that requires this Evolution Item, you should only require one. Use Pinap Berries to double the amount of Candy you earn when collecting Porygon in the wild. Use any extra Rare Candy you have on hand.
