Unable to use your microphone for meetings on Zoom? Is the Zoom audio/microphone not working on your Mac computer? Let us help you out! A lot of users have reported issues with Zoom in the past and even continue to do so in the present. It wasn’t great for Zoom back in 2020 when several users expressed concern for the platform’s weak security system and other annoying bugs involving the microphone and video quality. However, the developers have managed to improve Zoom’s security and visual features gradually. As of now, Zoom offers end-to-end encryption and the developers regularly take feedback into consideration to improve their service. However, web applications like Zoom are always prone to issues.
The developers cannot stop bugs from haunting applications entirely; all they can do is fix them timely so that the users don’t get the chance to complain. But, the process of patching up a mess also takes time. In such cases, officials usually suggest workarounds to avoid the situation. Microphone issues in Zoom are, unfortunately, very common. This is expected, with Zoom being an application offering video and audio meeting services. Don’t worry, as we have compiled a list of official and user-suggested workarounds for the ‘Zoom audio/microphone not working on Mac’ issue.

How to fix Zoom audio/microphone not working on Mac?
If you are unable to hear audio while in a Zoom meeting, check the following:
1) Test your speakers before you join the meeting. You’ll find the option to test speakers right after you enter the meeting code. This will help Zoom pick a working speaker and microphone for you.
2) Make sure you haven’t accidentally muted yourself or someone in the meeting.
3) Zoom requires you to use a working microphone and speakers for audio. Make sure that your speakers and microphone are not damaged or flawed.
4) Try triggering a call through similar apps like Microsoft Teams or Google Meet and check whether your microphone or speaker is working. In case they are working with other applications, the problem obviously is with Zoom. If you see similar issues with Meet and Teams, it’s probably a broken microphone that’s causing the issue.
If it’s a problem with just the Zoom Client and all other services work fine on your Mac, try the following:
1) Restart your Mac. This will clear any background processes or glitches that may be blocking Zoom from accessing your speakers or microphone.
2) Make sure you update your Zoom Client as and when updates are available. Also, update macOS to the latest available version.
3) Join the meeting, and leave it. Join back the meeting again. Check if the issue persists.
4) Make sure you haven’t set applications like Discord to auto-start on boot. Such applications may cause a hindrance to your microphone’s functionality.
Back in December, a lot of Zoom users reported that a bug was causing the microphone/recording indicator to show up on the Control Centre of their Mac devices, even when Zoom wasn’t running. If you are facing the same issue, the solution is very simple. Update your Zoom Client to the latest available version, and that’s it!
