Fixes for Nest Cam not recording events:
Check internet and power connection:
Checking for issues with power for your Nest Cam is easy. You need to first check if there are any signs of physical damage to the power cable, adapter, and camera itself. If any of the components of the setup are damaged, get them replaced. You should also temporarily plug your Nest cam into a different power outlet. This will tell you if the power outlet you had it connected to was stopping it from working correctly. After checking the power supply to your device, check the wifi connection.
Nest’s support page suggests that it is important for users to make sure their internet is working. And in this case, it makes complete sense. The events that are recorded by the cam are actively fed to the Nest app connected to it over a wifi network. Hence if your internet is not working, there can be problems in recording events with your Nest cam. Contact your ISP to know if there is a problem with your internet connection. If so, ask them for assistance in getting it fixed.
Check camera and mic:
Nest cam users are also suggested to check if the camera and mic are working as intended. Open the Nest app and press and hold the camera tile on the home screen. Then go to Settings > Camera. Toggle the button in front of it off and on. This will refresh the camera. Now check if the Nest cam is successful in recording events.
Camera placement:
It is possible that the zone in which you are expecting movements is not in the vision of the camera. You should try placing the camera in a more suitable spot. This will allow the camera to successfully record every little event that triggers it.
Restart camera:
To reset your camera, find the small pinhole that should be behind it. Use a paperclip and press the button inside it. Press the button and release it quickly. This will restart the Nest Cam and hopefully fix the event recording issue.
Contact support:
Finally, as a last resort, try contacting Nest support. You will find all the help necessary to fix the issue. And if your device turns out to be defective, you might get it replaced with a new one.
